From The Founder of IRQLinux

IRQLinux Community

Time for Plan B - IRQLinux Team Structure 2nd Edition

Hi,

This is our 3rd official announcement for today.

We have explained on the previous two announcements the reasons for all this so you need to go back to read what we have published before reading this :)

This is the 2nd Edition for IRQLinux Team Structure. The previous one was this.

  • IRQLinux Teams/Departments
  1. IRQLinux Artwork Team
  2. IRQLinux Documentation Team
  3. IRQLinux Internet/Networking Team
  4. IRQLinux Marketing Team
  5. IRQLinux Packaging and Development Team
  6. IRQLinux QA Team
  7. IRQLinux Technical Support

The following Teams/Departments have been excluded for the time being (which means we might add that later if needed):

  1. HR: we do have an automated system now + no time to find someone who is actually interested (we have people in HR but they are busy and inactive) so we can safely exclude that for now.
  2. E-Learning: no need for that. Our YouTube Channel and our blog's posts are more than enough. Should we find the time + enough human resources who are truly willing to work on that and help, we can add it later.
  3. System Administration: not needed.

  • IRQLinux Leaders Board Structure
  1. IRQLinux Founder - roles: Founder + Project Planner + Project Manager + HR + IRQLinux Community Manager + Other [Status: Active].
  2. IRQLinux Acting Project Manager 1 - roles: Acting + IRQLinux Technical Manager (Packaging and Development) [Status: Active].
  3. IRQLinux Acting Project Manager 2 - roles: Acting + IRQLinux Technical Manager (QA) [Status: Active].
  4. IRQLinux Artwork Team Leader [Status: Active].
  5. IRQLinux Documentation Team Leader [Status: Inactive].
  6. IRQLinux Internet/Networking Team Leader [Status: Inactive].
  7. IRQLinux Marketing Team Leader [Status: Active].
  8. IRQLinux Technical Support Team Leader [Status: Inactive].

  • IRQLinux Acting Team Leaders (2+1 Plan):
This is a NEW plan (not yet discussed with IRQLinux Team). The idea behind this plan is very simple:
Each team leader (if available/active) needs to choose 2 'ACTIVE' members from his/her team. Those will be the replacement in case the team leader is away for whatever reason.

The purpose: if the team leader of any team will be away, the acting team leaders will replace him/her so the work will never stop.

  • Reporting to:
  1. Acting Project Project Manager 1 and 2 reports to the founder.
  2. IRQLinux Team Leaders report to the founder.
  3. [IF APPROVED] IRQLinux acting team leaders report to the team leader of their team. If the team leader of that team will be away, then they will report directly to the founder.
  4. Members of each team report to their team leaders NOT to the founders.

  • Effective:
This new plan is effective immediately the time it will be published.

We hope this new plan will be more effective and more helpful than the previous one.

  • What is next?
  1. IRQLinux Founder will start to assign tasks to the rest of the teams.
  2. IRQLinux Team Leaders + Members need to be proactive and ask for tasks to be assigned to them. The founder can not run after everyone.
  3. IRQLinux Project in a very bad need to Documentation people.
  4. We are also in need to people who have experience with Linux, Packaging and Development (Debian and Ubuntu).
  5. Discuss on a weekly meeting either on our IRC Channel or Google Hangout. Once a week or maybe twice a week.

That is all for now :)

Thank you!

Time for Plan B - Why our plans have failed?

Hi,

In 5-July-2014, we have published our final IRQLinux Team Structure according to our plans. Sadly, that plan has failed for these reasons - without knowing the reasons, we shall never ever make any progress and therefore, we shall share that with everyone:

  1. Out of 70 members joined our team and so many willing to join, 10 members ONLY or less are active. Out of those 10 or less, very very few are proactive.
  2. Iraq's situation - example: Electricity, Internet, etc.
  3. So many are interested to help but the lack of experience, skills and time was a very valid reason that prevented them to do anything for the project.
  4. Sadly, Iraqi people (most not all) do not really go and do any kind of search/research. Most (not all) depends on someone else to do that for them. 80% of our time was gone and wasted because of that.
  5. Members refused to stop using Facebook and move to another reliable platform despite the fact that we have asked them so many times to stop using Facebook. This FULL GUIDE was published with each and everything to explain how to communicate. Yet, 1% only from the team are following that.
There are more reasons and before someone starts to blame the founder of IRQLinux, you need to understand the tasks that the founder of IRQLinux has been doing and still do on daily basis:

  • IRQLinux Founder was (and still) doing EVERYTHING by himself except: Artwork, Packaging and Development.
  • Communicate with everyone which drained most if not all the time + energy.
  • All the previous Team Leaders have become inactive for many and different reasons.
  • He had to explain everything and I mean EVERYTHING to almost everyone. No one was willing nor showing any interest to do something him/her self.
  • Because of the above, the founder had zero time to write + assign tasks to people since very few are proactive and the majority don't ask, they sit and wait for someone to give them something to do.
  • Other reasons.

There was a plan to overcome all the above. The plan was:

  1. Instead of one man to lead everything, we came up with the idea of having two people: one is the community manager (the founder of IRQLinux) and another one who is the technical manager (team leader of GNU/Linux Team within ICSF).
  2. Beside #1, the team leader of ICSF QA has been assigned to be the 3rd person who is in charge or IRQLinux. So, total 3 persons so far. One Founder and two acting project managers (each acting is already a team leader).
  3. That was not all. We have found two people to join each acting project manager: one for packaging and one for QA.
Sadly, the above plan failed as well - NO, I'm not going to explain any further why it has failed. Almost the same above reasons - mainly 'communications problem'.

To sum up all the above, basically, everything is messed up and has fallen and all the previous mentioned plans failed.

The only progress that we have made so far that worth mentioning:
  • IRQLinux Artwork Team has been given all the tasks that must be done so everything has been discussed and it is just about time until the work starts according to the plan.
  • We have established new Facebook/Marketing Team for IRQLinux. Tasks have been assigned to that team and everyone knows what he/she has to do.
  • IRQLinux Development (Packaging + QA) are working on IRQLinux Pre-Alpha which supposed to be released very shortly.
  • IRQLinux Blog became more informative and has very useful details.
  • For HR, there is an automated system that requires no intervention. All what need to be done is those who would like to join IRQLinux, they just need to send an email to this address. The automated system will do the rest.
Thanks to all the hard and great work from the people on these 3 teams mentioned above.

For all the above, we have to change our plans. One of these plans is to change the structure of IRQLinux team all together.

Previous one - see this.

We shall publish the new one on a new post.

Thanks a lot for reading :)

Time for Plan B - New Requirements to join IRQLinux

Hello everyone,

Once upon a time, a good friend of me told me:

"Those who have no plan B, they have no plan at all."

It means, if you are happy to have only one plan, then let me give you the wake up call. You don't have a plan at all, mate :)

Yes, sad but true.

Therefore, while you set, think, design, and come up with a plan, make sure to have a rescue or a backup plan in the process. Meaning, try to have at least two plans in your hand.

IRQLinux Founder and the team working on this project do actually have more than one plan in hand. However, we have decided not to use all our plans without making sure the first one has failed NOT might fail. That being said, our plans so far have failed to achieve what we are looking for and what IRQLinux truly need. Hence, it is time to change the plan.

As we have published today on our facebook page, the new requirement to join and be part of IRQLinux Project and Team will be:

And, to be accepted and considered as a member of IRQLinux Team, you first need to understand that you 'must' be Proactive.

These new requirements are based on the undeniable fact that we are a team of 'quality' not 'quantity'.

Soon, we shall publish insha'allah the other plans so stay tuned :)

Thank you!

[FULL GUIDE] HOWTO Contact IRQLinux Team?

Hi,

Starting from 22-July-2014, IRQLinux Team (Mesopotamia) will use two main channels for serious and important communications:

  1. Mailing List
  2. IRC

What is a Mailing List?
Please see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mailing_list

Why the mailing list?
  1. Faster.
  2. Better.
  3. More Organized.
  4. More Helpful.
  5. This is how professional and serious communities discuss.
  6. Your communications (emails) will never be lost.
  7. Because mailing lists exist for a reason and we should think differently (think out-of-the-box).

What is Launchpad?
Please see: https://help.launchpad.net/

Why Launchpad?
  1. Launchpad has many features, one of these is full functional mailing list which any community can create and use for any FOSS Project.
  2. Our project is based on Ubuntu and Launchpad is made by the same company of Ubuntu, that is Canonical. So, support wise, Launchpad as a platform is very much supported.
  3. Very easy to use.

How to use the mailing list for IRQLinux Team?
Please see this guide.

If you have any question, you can always check:
https://help.launchpad.net/Teams/MailingLists

What is IRC?
Please see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_Relay_Chat

More here: http://community.ubuntu.com/contribute/support/irc/

Why IRC?
  1. Super Fast way to discuss.
  2. Does not require fast internet connection - which is a huge problem in Iraq.
  3. The professional way for any development team to meet and discuss.
  4. Real-Time chat.
  5. All Ubuntu Communities and other Teams/Communities are using it either daily or weekly.
How to use IRC and Contact IRQLinux Team?
  • Web-based: visit this website, choose a nickname and login:

  • IRC Client: you can use Pidgin or XChat

IRQLinux Marketing Team:
  • For More Information About IRQLinux, you can contact our dedicated marketing team:

irqlinux.marketing AT gmail DOT com

  • If you have any suggestion, idea or feedback, please do contact our marketing team at the above email address.
IRQLinux Human Resource Team:
  • If you would like to join IRQLinux Project and help to build the very first Iraqi Operating System, you need to contact the HR team:
 irqlinux.hr AT gmail DOT com
  •  We shall only accept joining request that is sent to the above email. Please if you are interested to join, the only way is to send to the HR team.
IRQLinux Social Media Channels:
Starting from 22-July-2014, all IRQLinux Social Media Channels will NOT be used for any kind of serious/development discussions as explained above.

You need to understand more what does a Social Media Channel mean:

IRQLinux Team will keep the Social Media Channels for:
  1. Recruiting interested people to join the project/team.
  2. Share Updates, News, and all about the team and the project.
  3. Purely Marketing channels.
  4. Create a healthy and user-friendly environment where interested people about Operating Systems, GNU/Linux, Technology and Computer could meet and share some tips and knowledge.
  5. Schedule meetings and events.
What are the Social Media Channels for IRQLinux Team?
  1. YouTube : the official YouTube channel for IRQLinux Project.
  2. Google+ : the official Google+ channel for IRQLinux.
  3. Google+ Community : the official community on Google+ for the team members and users.
  4. Twitter : the official twitter account for IRQLinux Project.
  5. Facebook Page : the official Facebook Page for IRQLinux Project
  6. Facebook Group : the official Facebook Group for IRQLinux Team Members ONLY (you need to be a member to join this group).
IRQLinux Main Channel
Sadly, we don't have a website yet but we are working on that very soon. Therefore, for now, our main official channel is:
You can find almost everything you need to know on that blog. We always keep it updated.
Okay, is there any other channel for IRQLinux Project or Team?
Last but not least, we do have a new area which is still fresh and still empty. We need people who are good with documentation to fill it up.

This Wiki Area will be the main source of everything about IRQLinux. User guides, howtos, etc.

The reason why it is still empty because we do not have enough manpower to fill it up and we don't have any member who is interested to take that role. Documentation role is not a rocket science. Above all, any successful project will not be successfully without good documentation. So, we are in bad need to fill this role and that area. If you could do that, you're more than welcome.

That is all for now :)

This is a FULL guide. I hope I didn't forget anything ;)

Thanks!

[FULL GUIDE] Newcomers to IRQLinux Project

Dear all,

First of all, thank you for joining iRQLinux Team (Mesopotamia) and it is great to have you all here :)

May I humbly introduce myself?

I'm the father of iRQLinux and X Foundation :)

X Foundation is the main gate to the real future for Iraq and Iraqis, insha'alalh.

iRQLinux now is part of a much stronger and bigger foundation called:

Iraqi Computer Science Foundation

We are still on the early phases but it is HUGE, you need to trust me in this :)

ICSF is part of X Foundation beside other foundations and communities. You see, X Foundation is a huge and vast foundation.

Iraqi Computer Science Foundation consists of these Sub-Teams - please see this link.

Anyway, as you all may know, iRQLinux is the very first Iraqi Operating System based on GNU/Linux :)

You're here because you are interested :)

Now, let's get into the serious discussions.

There are two main types of contributions:
  • Direct Contributions: being a member of iRQLinux Team
  • Indirect Contributions: being a user for iRQLinux

Either way, you're welcome to join and be with us :)

Those of you who wish to join our team and have direct contributions, they are requested to read:
  1. http://irqlinux.blogspot.com/2014/07/irqlinux-7-questions.html
  2. http://irqlinux.blogspot.com/2014/07/howto-join-and-help-irqlinux-project-in.html
  3. Take a general overview at: http://irqlinux.blogspot.com

Those of you who would like to join as users can:
  1. Wait for the system to be released and support us all the way
  2. Instead of waiting, they can help us with testing iRQLinux
  3. They can join the social media channels of iRQLinux and help.

This is all what I'd like to explain and this is your Roadmap as a newcomer :)

Mr. Ryo, Ahmed Alaa and Haider Max are 3 Team Leaders involved directly with iRQLinux. Please do show all your respect and support to them. There are more people of course.

For any Question about iRQLinux, please email the marketing department:

iRQLinux Development Release (Pre-Alpha)

Hi everyone,

Iraqi Computer Science Foundation, the official sponsor of iRQLinux Project is pleased to announce the very first step on the development of iRQLinux.

Kindly note this is a Pre-Alpha and it is NOT recommended at all to be used on a real hardware - please do use a Virtual Machine if you wish to carry on.

Please understand we are at the very first early stages of the project. The real work has started a month or so. We are now doing lots of testing until we find the best way where we shall start to move forward and release the first official Alpha release:

These are the steps you need to do if you wish to know what exactly are we doing or how to help us :)

(1) Download and Install: Oracle Virtual Machine:
https://www.virtualbox.org/

(2) Download and Install Ubuntu Mini ISO
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/MinimalCD

(3) Create a New Virtual Machine and then install Ubuntu Mini ISO (hopefully soon, there will be a full guide of howto do this).

(4) Follow these after you install the Mini ISO and login - NOTE: there will be ONLY CLI, NO GUI on the Mini ISO

  •  sudo apt-get update
  • sudo apt-get install lightdm xorg xfce4 firefox synaptic -y
(5) 'lightdm' will not start by default so you need to do this:

Create new conf:
nano /usr/share/lightdm/lightdm.conf.d/50-session.conf
write:
[SeatDefaults]
user-session=xfce

Save and exit.

(6) Send your testing reports to:
mesopotamia AT lists.launchpad DOT net

(7) That is all for now :)

If you wish to join us:

If you wish to know more about iRQLinux:

Thank you!

iRQLinux 7 Questions

What?
iRQLinux is the very first Iraqi Operating System (OS) based on GNU / Linux and it is 100% FREE and available for each and every Iraqi Users all over the world. It can be used by anyone. We believe it is the best replacement and alternative for Microsoft Windows.

  1. It is Super Fast
  2. Super Secure
  3. Super Stable
  4. Super Easy to learn and use
  5. It comes with many default applications so you just need to download, install and start the real fun
  6. You do NOT need any Anti-Virus Program while using it
  7. It is Community Based Project and we provide 100% FREE Technical Support

Why?
Because Iraq and Iraqi People deserve to be happy and have the best. Because we want to draw a smile on each and every Iraqi face.

We also believe that Iraqis should start using the FOSS (Free and Open Source Software) Systems and Applications instead of Proprietary or Closed-Source Software. It is time for Iraq to cope up with the FOSS Revolution around the world.

Who?
iRQLinux is maintained and built by 100% Iraqi Team. That team called: Mesopotamia Team.

Where?
We are everywhere. You don't have to be in Iraq to join us and help to build and maintain the very first Iraqi OS. And you don't have to be in Iraq to use iRQLinux. All what we need is:

  • Internet Connection
  • A Browser
  • A Computer
That is all.

How?
As for how we do it? you need to join us and learn if you're interested.

As for how to join us? here is how: please see this link.

As for how to help us? here is how: please see this link.

When?
This project has started in 2011 and the reason why there is nothing so far is because iRQLinux Project had NO SUPPORT from anyone from 6th of July, 2011 until 10th of March, 2014. After 10th of March, 2014; new Iraqi Team has been found - ITA - and since that time, things started to change. So, the actual start is not really in 2011 but in 2014. In 18th of July, 2014; ITA (which was just a facebook page and I have proposed to make a huge team out of it) Facebook Page's founder has decided to take his Facebook Page and leave the community. Therefore, a new community/foundation has been announced. Now, iRQLinux is sponsored by Iraqi Computer Science Foundation.

As for when we shall release the first version of iRQLinux?
We can't promise as the project now is under heavy development but we do hope that insha'allah before the end of 2014, we hope the first version will be on your computers.

Which?

  1. iRQLinux is going to be based on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS
  2. We are planning to use XFCE Desktop Environment (DE) because it is highly customizable, very easy to use, does not require super computer to run it (1GB RAM is more than enough) and it is very beautiful.
  3. iRQLinux is not going to be released every 6-months like Ubuntu but every 12-months insha'allah, there will be a new version.
  4. There should be two editions: 32-bit and 64-bit.
  5. iRQLinux will be shipped with many default applications so you can just download, install and start using it.
  6. iRQLinux will come with pre-installed Software Center (Ubuntu Software Center and Synaptic Package Manager). You do not need to use any command in Terminal to install anything.
  7. You need minimum P4 CPU with 512MB RAM and it is recommended to have 1GB RAM for better performance.
  8. iRQLinux will be shipped with Mozzile Firefox browser. You can download and install Chromium browser if you wish or any other browser of your liking.
  9. You do not need to be an expert to start using GNU/Linux or iRQLinux. You just need an internet connection + a computer, that is all. If you need any help, we are here.
  10. We have chosen Ubuntu instead of any other GNU/Linux Distribution because it is very easy to use by anyone and world wide supported. There is a vast community behind Ubuntu and that will make life easier for us as a team and for you as a user.

That is all for now :)

Thank you!

Mesopotamia Team Meeting #1

NOTE:
Mesopotamia is the name of the team that is working on iRQLinux Project.

Hi,

The first official meeting for Mesopotamia Team Members happened on Wed, 16th of July, 2014. Here is the meeting:

We have discussed the recent changes and highlighted many issues and points.

That was the first meeting for the team and insha'allah the coming days will have more meetings :)

As per the above chart, interested people must read:

And, as per the above chart, interested people (who actually joined us) must read:

Also, we have talked about the Technical Roadmap for iRQLinux:

These are the main/major topics we have discussed and the rest can be found on the meeting on YouTube - see above.

Some points we would like to highlight:

  1. We do not need Leaders/Team Leaders within Mesopotamia Team bur rather ACTIVE and PROACTIVE members.
  2. Everyone should have something to do instead of enjoy doing nothing. If we are planning to have a great system, then we should have a great team and if we wish/want that, we should work as such. 1-2 people do everything and the rest are watching is not going to help.
  3. Work should be in parallel. Meaning, if Artwork Group is working on something, QA Group for example should NOT sit and watch but do something else.
  4. AGAIN, communication of iRQLinux must be on Launchpad (Mailing List) and NOT Facebook - see: http://haf-aj.blogspot.com/2014/05/joining-launchpad-and-howto-subscribe.html and http://haf-aj.blogspot.com/2014/05/how-amazingly-launchpad-handles-users.html
  5. Facebook should ONLY be used by the newcomers to our team.
  6. We shall do regular meeting more than once per week because the project is under heavy development these days.
  7. Ali will do some meetings with his group and Mr. Ryo will do another meetings with his group and both Ali and Mr. Ryo will do 1-2-1 meetings if needed.

That is all for now. Stay tuned for more very soon, insha'allah :)

Thank you!
